In this author study and writer's workshop, students examine some of history's greatest authors and create their own original written piece. Each week we study the works of a spotlight author, taking into account their style, messages, tone, voice, and more. After learning a bit about the author's biography and works, the class will explore a signature element of the featured author's writing. Students are then given a writing prompt inspired by the author's work. Students will spend time drafting, crafting, sharing, and giving and receiving feedback on their works. The class will learn and utilize a positive, constructive model for giving and receiving peer feedback.
