Let's Jam! Comic Collaboration
In this fun collaborative class, students will create a jam comic consisting of one panel. A jam comic is a collaborative comic strip in which a group of artists draw a comic using the same prompt. Students will use the whiteboard feature in the online classroom or paper and pencil to collaborate on the process of telling a cohesive story with a beginning middle and end. Each week, students will collaborate on one jam comic and focus on the craft and structure of storytelling. Students will practice showing instead of telling their stories by drawing actions, characters, and settings.
Storytelling through Comics
A "Jam Comic" is a collaborative drawing exercise in which artists draw a one panel comic based on a common drawing prompt. Each class will begin with this activity. Following the warm up, the teacher will guide students to create their own comic strips using the lesson objectives. The teacher will model each step of the process through guided drawing, collaborative brainstorming, and positive peer/teacher critique.
Explore Art History
Each week students will create a new painting, drawing or mixed media artwork inspired by art found throughout history, and across the world.
